We achieve these goals through prevention and education. Prevention is the cornerstone of this practice and is presented in a warm, caring atmosphere. Kids love to have fun, and you love it when your kids come away from our center with a minimum of cavities. When kids visit our center they can enjoy our especially designed playroom where they can spend time playing variety of games while watching video films discussing different dental topics in an easy to understand language. Before leaving each child will be handed " Reach and Teach kits" in appreciation for his cooperation with the dentist. You can do a lot to reduce the possibility of tooth decay with an oral health care that includes brushing and flossing daily with fluoridated toothpaste and, fluoride application in the dental clinic, applying tooth sealants, and having regular dental visits.

Early prevention care promotes a lifetime of good dental health.

Brushing and Flossing
Daily brushing and flossing are critical for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Ask the dentist or hygienist about proper cleaning techniques. For brushing, a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste is all a child needs. Although children can generally brush their own teeth by age for five, flossing is a bit more difficult to master and it may take a few years longer to perfect. Watching over children while they brush and floss will assure that the job is done properly. To prevent injury to the gums, provide a child-size toothbrush with soft, polished bristles. Replace it as soon as it wears out, usually every three to four months. Look for dental products that display the ADA Seal of Acceptance, which means they are safe and effective.

Sealants
As a child's permanent back teeth (premolars and molars) develop, depressions and grooves form in the chewing surface of the enamel. These surfaces contain tiny grooves and depressions, called pits and fissures, which collect plaque and microscopic bits of food. Sometimes even a toothbrush bristle is too large to reach into these grooves. A dental sealant is a clear or shaded plastic material that the dentist paints on the chewing surfaces of the permanent teeth. The sealant adheres to the tooth and forms a thin protective cover that keeps plaque and food out, reducing the risk of tooth decay.

Fluoride
Fluoride is a mineral that strengthens teeth and protects them from decay. Children who drink fluoride water from birth have up to 40 percent fewer cavities than those who don't. Other sources of this mineral include fluoride toothpastes and mouthrinses, prescribed supplements, and fluoride applications in the dental office. It's important to ask your dentist about how to obtain the right level of fluoride for your children.

Dental Visits
Regular dental check-ups, beginning before the child's first birthday, and preventive dental care, such as cleanings and fluoride treatments, provide your child with "smile" insurance. Routine dental exams uncover problems that can be treated in the early stages, when damage is minimal and restorations may be small. When necessary, X-rays are taken to see how the teeth are developing and to spot hidden decay.
